Very impressed. Was in a bind on a Saturday. Victor came out within 90 minutes of my call and was very knowledgeable about the Flologic leak detection system we had that showed a possible leak. Within 15 minutes he advised the issue was with the valve for that system that got stuck in the off position. He fixed it, tested the system and we were good to go. I'm very thankful for getting in touch with the right company. Victor was very professional, friendly, and if we have any further plumbing or electric issues we will call Titan.

What St Petersburg homeowners ask us most often.

Why do St. Petersburg drains fail so much more often than newer areas?
Because the city is genuinely old by Florida standards. Of about 141,508 housing units, roughly 70 percent predate 1980 and the median build year is 1969. Some 32,033 units went up during the 1950s and 20,269 date to 1949 or earlier. That is decades of cast iron and clay reaching the end of its life at once, which is why recurring backups here are structural rather than incidental.
Is the sewer system fixed after the 2015 and 2016 spills?
Substantially addressed, and formally so. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection investigated the city's sanitary sewer system after those discharges, the city entered into a consent order with corrective action requirements, and the related citizen suit concluded in May 2025. That covers the public system. It does not touch the private lateral running from your house to the main, which remains the property owner's to maintain.
Does the city supply my natural gas in St. Petersburg?
No. Natural gas here comes from Peoples Gas, part of TECO Energy, not from a municipal gas department. This is worth stating plainly because Clearwater does own its gas utility, and people assume St. Petersburg follows the same pattern. It does not. The city runs its own water, wastewater and reclaimed systems, and its own building department, but not the gas.
What is the purple pipe in my St. Pete yard?
Reclaimed water for irrigation, and the system it belongs to has a genuine claim to being first. The city's Water Resources department describes its reclaimed network as the first built in the United States and one of the largest in the world. It is not drinking water. Having both reclaimed and potable service on one property is a cross connection, which is what the backflow assembly on your line is for.
How high did the water get in St. Petersburg during Helene?
Record height. The St. Petersburg tide gauge, which has recorded since 1947, measured 6.31 feet above mean higher high water during Helene on 26 September 2024, breaking the previous mark of 3.97 feet set by Hurricane Elena in 1985. The old record was beaten by well over two feet. Water heaters, panels, disconnects and pool equipment submerged at that depth are replacement work rather than restoration work.
Who issues my St. Petersburg permit?
The city, from its downtown offices on Fourth Street North, not Pinellas County. St. Petersburg runs its own building department, as do Clearwater and Tarpon Springs, while unincorporated areas and towns like Belleair Beach and Belleair Shore use the county. Plumbing and electrical are permitted separately here and the state licence has to be current and on file before anything is issued.
My Old Northeast house predates 1940. What is behind the plaster?
Usually several generations of work stacked on each other. Around 12,714 St. Petersburg housing units date to 1939 or earlier, and a house that old has typically been partially rewired and partially repiped more than once, leaving original conductors abandoned in place alongside newer circuits. On the drain side the original cast iron and clay is often still doing the work. Hydro jetting clears scale that cabling only punches through.
