Emergency Response Playbook: What a Licensed Plumber Does in the First Hour

Expert Guide March 2026
Titan Plumbing technician on a Tampa emergency call

The clock starts when you call

When a real emergency comes in. A burst pipe, an active sewer backup, a slab leak running into the carpet. The first hour matters more than the next ten. Here is what we do at Titan from the moment your call hits dispatch.

Minute 0 to 5: triage

A real Tampa dispatcherer confirms the address, the nature of the issue, whether the water is currently shut off, and whether anyone is at risk. For active flooding we walk you through the main shutoff before we hang up.

Minute 5 to 20: dispatch

We assign the closest stocked truck. Our techs run with common emergency parts on board. Shutoff valves, pressure regulators, water heater elements, slab-leak rerouting fittings, sewer cabling and jetting heads. So most repairs do not need a parts run mid-job.

Minute 20 to 60: arrive, contain, diagnose

On arrival the tech contains the damage first (full shutoff, isolation valves, sandbags or towels for water control). Then a real diagnosis: cameras for sewer issues, acoustic and thermal tools for hidden leaks, multimeter and infrared for electrical. Only after the cause is confirmed do we quote the repair.

What you do not pay for

We do not bill diagnostic time as labor when you book the repair. You also do not pay extra for nights, weekends, or holidays beyond our published emergency rate, which is quoted before any work starts.

If you are mid-emergency right now, stop reading and call (813) 933-8010. We will dispatch immediately.
