Cost Guide January 2026
The math is simpler than it looks
A spot repair on a copper or PEX line runs $250 to $700. A whole-home repipe in a typical Tampa home runs $5,500 to $11,000. The break-even is clearer than most homeowners think.
Repair makes sense when
- The home has copper or PEX in good general condition
- This is the first or second leak ever
- The leaking section is accessible without major demo
- The rest of the system tests at normal pressure
Repipe makes sense when
- Polybutylene supply lines. These were installed widely in Florida from 1978 to 1995 and have a documented failure pattern. If you have polybutylene, schedule a repipe. The question is when, not if.
- Galvanized supply lines. Galvanized rusts from the inside. Brown water and falling pressure are end-of-life signs. Repipe.
- Recurring pinhole leaks in copper. Three or more pinholes in two years means the copper has reached the end of its useful life in your water chemistry.
- Multi-fixture pressure problems. When pressure drops across the whole house, individual repairs will not solve it.
What a Tampa repipe actually involves
- PEX-A or Type-L copper, your choice (PEX is more common today)
- Strategic wall openings, not full demolition
- Drywall repair handled as part of the project
- 1 to 3 days from start to finish in most homes
- City permit, pressure testing, and county sign-off
- 25-year manufacturer warranty on the materials
